Middle of the Summer

This picture was taken at our camp (Gateway) in Matamoros by my Mom (Joyce) who is visiting us in Texas for the first time. This last Monday we all went to visit the project that was going on during this week in Matamoros. Jonathan Almanzar was the project leader. Cesar still has several weeks of projects to set up in Matamoros and Reynosa. He is also overseeing the translator coordinators. entire may newsletter

Have you ever had a stone in one of your kidneys? Have you ever had a stone try to leave your kidney? It is not a pleasant experience. Some have said that it is worse than having a baby. Starting last Thursday, April 27, I began having the very painful experience of trying to move several of these stones out of my body. It took 6 days for them to leave, but I am glad to report they have left! Unfortunately, they have also left a big hole in the checkbook. The trip to the hospital and tests are probably going to be more than our deductible ($2500). If any of you can help out with this by praying or donating, we would really appreciate it.

In January, Katie and I started the homeschooling experience. We honestly have had a great time. She has been very conscientious and I haven't lost my mind yet. Did you know that you can study Spanish and Math at Target? Okay, try reading all the bilingual signs. It's quite educational. Seriously, she's almost finished with all of her books and it's only the beginning of May. I've also been busy with Hannah. Cesar and I are coaching her volleyball team. It's been a great opportunity to reach out to our community here and love on these kids. It's so much fun to watch kids play sports.

Katie is becoming quite the pre-teen. She turns 13 in July and already looks the part. She is already 5ft 4 ½ inches and has just grown up so much lately. Homeschooling has been a great way to spend more time together and teach her life lessons. She still loves reading books, (we get 10 books from the library each week) and is very much into hanging out with her best friend, Lori. Somehow they manage to see each other almost every day.

Hannah just got back from a trip to San Antonio. She went on a school fieldtrip to visit the Alamo. I (Jennifer) went with her. It was fun. We went on huge Greyhound buses with about 150 other fourth graders. She has also enjoyed being on the volleyball team as well as taking great care of our baby kittens. Frequent trips to visit a friend's horse that is boarded nearby are also high priority. Horses are currently her big love.
